Dog Harness Size Chart: Recommend Sizing Guide By Breed & Weigh

If you are planning to buy a harness for your dog, refer to a dog harness size chart to have the perfect pick. To make this happen, you need to know the size of your dogs’ girth and have the neck measurement, and then use it to read the chart. By this, you would automatically find out the size of the dog harness that you should buy for your pet.

Taking the precise measurement is essential if you want to get your hands on the harness that fits your dog. Since it is the harness, it must neither be too baggy nor short, so to find the perfect match, you must get the perfect measurement of your pet.

What to Measure to Find the Right Harness Size of Your Dog?

To know the harness size fit for your dog, you need to take some measurements of your pet. Basically, there are two ways of measuring:

a. Measure the size of your dog’s girth.

Take a soft tape or a tailors tape, and wrap it around the widest part of your pet, which happens to be the girth(the largest part of the chest) located behind the front legs. Note down the measurement on a page, whether in inches or cm.

b. Measure the size of your dog’s collar.

Using the same tape, measure the collar correct size of your dog. Encircle the tape around the neck of your pet, considering the fur thickness, and note down. It is recommended to keep one finger or two-finger gap according to the thickness of the fur, so it doesn’t cause any discomfort to your pet.

To see if your dog is in discomfort, you could always keep one finger inside the tape while you measure the collar. Or the best way would be to use the size of your used harness.

How to Use the Dog Size to Find the Size of the Harness?

There are diverse techniques for finding out the right harness that you must buy for your dog. Once you’ve already had the reading, you can put it on the chart and see how it matches the sizes. But there are variant ways, so this is how you read it.

Refer to the previous harness.

If you have previously used any hardness for your dog of nylon material, the size could be rightly used. The first chart we have has the size of the harness, see if it matches with your previous harness, and then decide the size of your new harness.

Read the dog girth size chart.

The Girth is the chest part of your dog which is the widest part. If you have taken the size of your dog’s girth, try to resemble it with the dog girth size chart. For example, if the chest size of your pet is around 38 to 55cm, and the next size is around 32 cm, then you should size M for your dog harness.

Read the size chart by breed.

Be sure of your dog’s breed, and use it to find out the harness size. But you need the weight of your pet as well.

For example, if your dog is a pug and it weighs around 5 to 6 kgs, then you would need the extra small(XS) size. On the other hand, if your dog is a Standard Schnauzer, and weighs around 20 kg, then medium(M) would be fine.
